Knot Tied is a single channel video that presents a man and a woman against a black background with strands of yarn pouring down, unraveling onto their faces obscuring both their views as they look out at the viewer. Images double up on one another giving it a soft and ethereal feeling. When a couple gets married they “tie the knot” but in this video the couple has no knot as the yarn unravels from the center of nowhere. The knots are being untied from their huge mess at the beginning and end of the video. Created specifically for the Strings Attached exhibition, the piece explores the idea of gender roles and relationships that are attached and unraveling at the same time.
