air-hunger (bathroom)

air-hunger (bathroom), 3:00, 2003

Channel Video

This video presents an image of a man and a woman blowing bubbles with bubble gum in a sterile white tiled environment. As one bubble deflates, another bubble emerges. All individual identity is lost as one image dissolves into the other in a never-ending loop. The image has been slowed down to about one-third of its original speed giving it a mesmerizing ‘screen saver’ effect. The piece speaks about interior and exterior views physically and emotionally through the metaphor of the bubble. As the bubbles enlarge, the exterior environment is reflected on the outside of the bubbles, distorting the view of the environment. These views are then sucked inside the man and woman as they create and destroy what the viewer sees through the bubbles. The audio is silent.
